Life is a Roller Coaster

We normally try to update the blog with happy silly things, but unfortunately the past week has been filled with things that are the furthest thing from happy & silly. As you know, Shirley's pups left our home a few weeks ago. As per the last litter that we fostered, once the pups were old enough to be on their own, they went to a wonderful foster home that has much more room & is better suited to wild & woolly pups. This time the foster home already had 2 older puppies that were getting ready to go to rescue. Unfortunately, the two older pups broke with Parvo about a week after Shirley's pups arrived. The older puppies both improved & are doing fine.  Puppies can't be vaccinated until they are 6 weeks old  & are not fully vaccinated until they receive all 3 sets in the series of shots. Shirley's pups had their first set of shots, but that was not enough. Even though the foster took Shirley's pups to the vet right away, not all of them could be saved. As of right now, 3 of Shirley's babies have passed away. One remains on an IV.  One of the three was little Koa who had already been adopted into her forever home. I could go on all day about how I wish people would spay & neuter their pets or how I wish we had done thing differently, but the bottom line is those puppies were innocent & like so many other animals, did not not deserve to have such a short life. I can try & make myself better by telling myself at least they were loved their entire life, but to be blunt, it still sucks. We are all heartbroken. Please say a prayer that the remaining puppies continue to improve.

On the upside of things, Ciera's family LOVES her & they have decided to start their own blog. Please stop by & meet her family over at The Amazing Lives of Our Rescues. We can't thank them enough for providing her with such a loving home!! We also want to extend our condolences for little Koa.

We are going to take a few more days to mend & hopefully will be back soon with better news. In the meantime, here is a picture proving that Mr. James can sleep any where in ANY position.

I have no words. This is so sad. You worked so hard to save Shirley, help her pups and now this. There just aren't enough people who fix their pets and not enough foster homes and just not enough...thanks for all you do. They were loved, thats a lot more than I can say for other pups or humans.

I am soooo sorry. Parvo is a horrible illness, and Shirley's is not the first rescue litter to be lost due to such unforeseen circumstances. By the time one knows a pup has parvo, the others have been infected. Positive 'get healthy' vibes to the remaining pups.
Looking forward to reading Ciera's
blog - thanks for the link.

I am so very sorry. You worked so hard helping those puppies only to have this happen, it is simply heartbreaking. Thank you for being there to love them for their short sweet little lives.

Oh no. I am so sorry. What a terrible development.

Thank you for your efforts and for loving them the short time they lived. While it may be cold comfort, they did know love and that's something.

Please be gentle with yourself in this time of grief.

Warm regards,
Leslie

Poor sweet babies. It's not fair that little ones have such little time. Sorry for the sadness and I am sending my paw love out to the remaining puppies that they may battle through the first challenges to live out the life challenges.

That is such a hard situation to go through, especially after all the love you put into the pups. We are grieving with you, but I am glad the life they had was a good one. We'll be thinking of the remaining pups- hope they keep fighting!

I am so sorry! I know that you worked hard to take care of Shirley & her puppies and loved them with all that you had. Whether they are fosters or our own, babies or in the twilight of their lives, loss is still loss and I know how much it aches.

May Paulie be a comfort to you!

Oh we are SO sorry you have to go through this. With all the good you do with rescue and foster I would like to spare you this pain.

Just know that we are sorry and you all are well loved.

Parvo is just so tragic. Whenever I hear that word my heart stops.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and for the other foster home's loss, for the loss of Koa and all the other puppies who faced the uphill battle with terrible Parvo.

I hope you have some bright days ahead.

This is so devastating. We knew how hard you worked with all of the pups, it's just so hard because they had just been given that other chance.

Sending big hugs to you and the family. I was traveling and offline so I'm just reading the news. Such a terrible loss. I can imagine how difficult it is, but please do take comfort in the fact that because of you all, they knew so much love in their short lives.

I'm very happy to hear the Ciera is doing so well.
