Huntington Museum of Art Hike

One of my absolute favorite things to do is go on walks!  We go on walks every day (rain, snow, or shine). BUT when Mr.,  Mrs., or my Boy opens the car door, we know we are in for a real treat and going somewhere special or different.  A couple of Saturdays ago, after several days of rain---we got in the car and went to somewhere I had never been.  It seemed like we were in the car for a long time and when the car FINALLY did stop we were at the Huntington Museum Of Art in Huntington, West Virginia.

I was extremely puzzled at first because I knew most humans would not allow me (and Annie or Jenny) into an art museum!  (Man oh man, that would a sight). Then, after we had our leashes on---at the end of the parking lot, there was a path!  All three of us had grins when we saw that path...Bring on the adventure!

The writing on this stone says it all.  Yes, we love walks, but we really LOVE being on a path in the forest.  So many new smells and sounds!!!  It was a warm day and it felt like fall with all those orange leaves crackling beneath my paws.

After some intense walking and smelling (and marking some new territories), we stopped at a little break area for some water and so Mrs. could snap a few pictures. She sure does love taking those pictures!  As you can see, me and Jenny were all smiles.  We were hoping for an up close and personal encounter with a squirrel or rabbit but it did not happen!  However, those critters were making noises that stopped us in our tracks (or maybe it was the wind?).

Now...here is a good picture.  Me and my boy. I might get one of these made for myself and put it in a locket on my collar.  He's my best friend, ya know...

Here is something that I find a little scary...Throughout the path, there was lots of rocks and occasionally, these rocks would have faces on them!!!  I have never seen anything like it.  Who did it and why?  Not all them were easy to spot.  My humans seemed to think it was neat but not me.  I think these faces are SPOOKY! *

Look!  There's one of them again!!!  What a creepshow!

Here's me and my Boy in front of an eerie old gate.  Looks like a haunted house should be behind us, huh?  Maybe when my Boy gets his driver's license next year, we can get a van and be like Shaggy and Scooby Doo and go solve mysteries.  Plus, eat giant sandwiches like Shaggy and Scooby as well---that's the best part of every episode.

Look at Jenny!  She was real excited to be on the walk as well.  I definitely enjoy having her as a foster sister.  Not only do we both like lounging on the couch (especially the new couch) and having treats...we enjoy long walks in the woods!  I don't mind sharing my Boy with her either.

This part of the path was a little different, too!  There were rocks that reminded me of the steps at the back of our house.  Except they were super STEEP and there were bigger rocks on either side and you had to squeeze between them.

Here's Jenny again enjoying a little break after sneaking between a section of those big rocks.  I bet she has spotted more of those Weirdo Rock Faces!

She did! Yikes!!!  The weirdest carving yet!  I don't know what makes humans do such things.  It IS sort of neat (and still scary), though.

Actually, here is what Jenny was looking at!  It's The Boy and he is having to lift Annie's bottom up a section of those narrow rock stairs.  My older sister Annie LOVES walking and even though she is getting older, most of the time she is ahead of me on walks (especially in the forest).  But her arthritis had acted up on her when we hit this round of steps.  I was pooped myself!

There she is again!  She's got it now...It was just that first BIG step that held her up for a bit. It really was a monster step.

Look at Jenny giving my Boy kisses!  I gave him some, too...don't you worry!

Here we are at the end of the walk having a little more water before the drive home.  Tired, but satisfied.  A day that I will never forget!  Look at Jenny---do you think she hears one of those pesky rabbits or squirrels???  Maybe we'll spot one on the next hike.

Either Mr. or Mrs. spotted this statue of two bears and had me and The Boy strike a quick pose before we left.

Annie, me, and Jenny's good side...LOL---just kidding, Jenny!!!!

* The carvings were done by Glenwood, W.Va. folk artist Earl Gray, & we were lucky enough to take a guided hike several years ago at which Mr. Gray was present. We each try to be the first to spot a face.

What a great adventure! Of course, I always love seeing Pauley James' super sweet smiling face. Great pictures of sweet Annie & Jenny too. The Boy is getting his driving license soon?! That means tons of new adventures. I love the idea of Shaggy & Scooby.

We mostly read about other doggie adventures, but we enjoyed this one very much.

Sounds like quite an adventure. And I agree those stones were a little creepy, but I found myself too distracted by some beautiful smiles to worry about it.
