Q & A Part II

PJ: Has any group of fosters really fit well together?

Mrs.: Yes, a group of three that we fostered instantly comes to mind! Nihla, Bella & Tink got along famously. They were constantly together; playing, cuddling & sleeping. When Nihla first came to us, she was afraid of everyone & everything. It took a few days for her to start to realize that things were going to be okay.
Bella on the other hand, came barreling into the house & did not look back! Within the first few minutes she had knocked over a lamp, hurdled the couch & scared another foster half to death. Bella was just a pup that had not found her footing yet. We actually see Bella occasionally as she attends doggy day care at our vet’s office & she is now a very well behaved young lady. She has also grown into an 80 lb beauty.
We have talked about Tink before & she was one of the easy peasy fosters that we have had .
The only time that there was any type of disagreement was at treat time, Bella tried to take Nihla’s away from her & although normally Nihla would just ignore her, this day she had had enough! Nihla pinned Bella down. She did not try to hurt her;  just trying to show her that her behavior was not acceptable. What did Bella do? She started screaming at the top of her longs EEEK EEEEEEEK EEEEEEK EEEEEEEEEEk!!! She sounded like Sponge Bob!! What did Tink do while this was going on? She peed on the floor & ran to her crate. We are happy to report that Bella learned to stick with her own treats after that.

PJ: Okay Mr., I know what a big softie you really are, and I would like to know if there have been any dogs before me that you were really attached to?
Mr.: Yes, I was very attached to Maggie. She was a dog that had been hit by a car &  had to take daily medication to prevent seizures. She was the cutest little thing. We ended up with her, because she was a fearful dog & if she did not know you & you tried to pet her, she would try & bite you. She had a huge growl too (especially for an under 20 pounder) & she made sure to let you know when she was not comfortable. She had been boarded at the vet’s office for several days before we picked her up & the vet staff made sure to let us know about her temperament. To be honest, we did not really know what we were going to do with her, but off we went with a growling dog in a carrier. Fast forward a few days & we have the happiest, snuggliest little dog ever. Most of the fosters prefer the Boy or the Mrs., but Maggie only had eyes for me. Even though she loved our family, she still growled at strangers. We introduced her to as many people as we could & tried to get her used to everyone. So a few months go by & an adoption event is being held one Saturday while I was at work. The Mrs. decided she would take Maggie & keep her with her while the other fosters went to the Boy & the Niece. She thought it would do Maggie good to be around people & she was small enough to hold her. She had no intention of trying to adopt Maggie out at this point. The next thing you know, I get a call at work that an older couple fell in love with Maggie & she was officially adopted! The couple’s children are grown & Maggie is now their little princess!

PJ: Which foster has been your shortest time wise?

Boy: I believe that honor would go to Frankie NKA Chance. He only stayed with us for around a week. Frankie is also our smallest foster to date. We already had a houseful, but when we heard that he was not eating & would not interact with anyone, we figured, what is one more; especially when this small. He was adopted by a family friend & is one spoiled boy now.

PJ: Why did you place the Petfinder scroller on the blog? Are you trying to depress people?

Mrs.: Pauley you are so dramatic. Believe it or not some people still do not know about Petfinder & we wanted to make it easy for them to learn about it & see some of the dogs available in this area.

PJ: Alright you have stretched it out as long as possible; what is this exciting news that you have?
Mrs.: SHIRLEY IS GETTING ADOPTED!!!!! She leaves on transport tomorrow morning. Her family has a Boy and a Girl AND a doggie brother!!  Her family also fosters dogs for a local to them rescue & we are sure that she will always have someone to play with and or love on! And just to sweeten the deal, they are going to keep us updated on Shirley & her wonderful new life! We are very hopeful that this is a sign of good things to come this new year!

PJ: While I am happy for Shirley, who am I going to play with?

Mrs.: You will have to wait & see……….

Pauley, you are a very good interviewer. I do hope you are getting paid, with bonuses, for your reporting skills.
Congrats to Shirley - I'm sure you will miss her, but as we all know in the world of rescue, another foster dog is always waiting in the wings.

another great post! i hope these never end. and that news about shirley is just FANTASTIC--made this monday less sucky.

it does lead me to a question that maybe you can answer next time around: what's the longest you've ever gone with no fosters in your house?
