A Look Back

Since it is the end of this year, I thought I would ask the people a few questions about the past two years of fostering. Welcome to my first Q & A post.

1. PJ: Okay let's just get this one out of the way, who is your favorite foster? Obviously me considering I am still here.

Boy: Pauley James thats not a very fair question... Next!

2. PJ: Okay then, so who was your first foster?

Mrs.: Emmie, she was our Dukes of Hazard foster, whenever there was an open window in our car she would jump right in!

3. PJ: Who was the most playful dog you have fostered?

Mr.: That would have to be Hollis, who coincidentally was our sweatiest foster as well. He was held as evidence in an abuse case. Once he was released and found out what a real home was like, he was like a kid in a candy store. He would get so excited when playing that the living room furniture would end up rearranged!

4. PJ: Besides me of course, who was your manliest foster?

Boy: That would be little Paco, even though he only weighed 12 pounds, he had the pain threshold of 10 grown men. When it was all said and done Paco pulled his staples (from neuter) 3 whole times. Our vet finally gave up and let it heal on its own. I remember he used to climb trees with me. Paco was also our first foster to be transported by plane.

5. PJ: How many pregnant fosters have stayed at our house? And why do you keep fostering them?

Mrs.: Four: Mona, Jasmine, Shirley, and Phoebe. Luckily Mona found rescue before having her puppies. Although fostering puppies is a lot of work and very worrisome, we can't stand the thought of puppies being born at the pound. Truth be told, fostering puppies is quite a challenge, and we would rather stick with older dogs, but you just have to jump in and do what has to be done.

6. PJ: Who has been your easiest foster? (Me?)

Mr.: Shirley, hand's down... housebroken, loves people, loves other animals, does not bark, and will give you endless kisses.

7. PJ: Don't you get sad when they leave?

Boy: Yes, sometimes its very hard to let them go but I have to remember in order to keep helping other dogs, we have to keep spaces open. I remember when we got Kelly Ann, she was tied up to a parking meter (I got to name her!). We only had her for a few weeks, but I had a very close bond with he & it was pretty tough.

8. PJ: Do you guys think your special or something for fostering dogs?

Mrs.: No, Pauley, we are just normal people (mostly) who are trying to make a diffrence and we hope that by sharing our stories maybe a few other families will be inspired to foster.

9. PJ: Ok last question, would any of this be possible without the local rescue organizations?

Mr.: NO, without rescue groups none of this would be possible. We would like to thank all of the rescues and volunteers for all of their hard work.

PLEASE SUPPORT  LOCAL RESCUES!!!!!

PJ: Well this has been fun, maybe we can do this again sometime and talk more about me. How about next Friday?

Bless you for the fostering work you do. There is a place in heaven (or the Rainbow Bridge) for foster parents of deserving dogs.

What a great post. Very informative, plus really showcases Pauley James' talent as a interviewer. Here's to a successful 2012!

Pauley, you are very handsome in your new photo with your tie and color.
I disagree with one point in your Q&A: I DO think people who foster, Mr, Mrs. and Boy, are VERY special - dogs would be lost w/o you and we who rescue could rescue fewer (and you make this point well) w/o you.
Kudos esp. for caring for those PG moms and their pups.
So many Beagles needing homes in KY! Two from MS are wanting to come to Silverwalk...
Thank you, thank you!

I love this post! I have to tell you, G and I did a bunch of fostering when I lived in a flexible building that didn't care about number of pets and I have to tell you - it was so tough, but so rewarding! It's not for the faint of heart for sure and I give you so, so much credit for doing this. If only the world had more kindhearted folks like you!

this post is such a fantastic idea, and i really hope you do more of these. i thoroughly enjoyed it.

i love reading about fostering, because it makes it seem more realistic that it's something we can do, too.
